Happy birthday, Jane Austen! Are people doing anything to celebrate? I have been reading many of the new Jane Austen books. The latest one that I just read was Jane on the Brain, by Wendy Jones. It combines psychological terminology with literary criticism. My favorite of the new books is Reading Austen in America by Juliette Wells. I'm wearing my Jane Austen socks that I got as a gift!

My local JASNA chapter had its annual birthday tea a local tea house. We did a prosecco toast, played Jane Austen Bingo, gave away some prizes, and had a lovely time. Everyone enjoyed themselves so much that we asked the owner to reserve December 15, 2018 for our next party.

I'm planning to read Juliette Wells' Reading Austen in America very soon. I just finished reading Jane Austen in Performance by Marina Cano, which is a study of Austen's popularity over the years, from the women's suffrage movement to the present day. Cano discusses film and theatrical adaptations and fan fiction. I also spent time looking around the University of Michigan Library's exhibit on Jane Austen, "The Life and Times of Lizzy Bennet", which includes early editions of her novels.
