A Sanditon miniseries, produced by ITV and Masterpiece

It seems we are heading towards a third boom of Austen adaptations. In July the news that ITV and PBS Masterpiece are producing Sanditon as 8 episode miniseries also made headlines, script by Andrew Davies:

I must say that I am NOT particularly excited about this, 8 episodes seem too much for me. Judging from the sinopsis provided, it will be Davies' Sanditon, not Austen's, for example: "a spirited young heroine"... "quite a bit of nude bathing". I am not prude but it is not historically accurate.

It has also been conffirmed the area around Bristol will be used as location:

But one of my main objections is why to transform every Austen heroine into a Lizzy Bennet: "the impulsive, spirited and unconventional Charlotte Heywood". Anyone who has read Sanditon knows Charlotte is anything but impulsive, on the contrary, she seems more level-headed, almost as sensible as Elinor Dashwood.

After more than a half year absent, with the premiere of this series in UK, I had to come and read your opinions (I have to confess I had to make use of alternative sources to see the first episode). I have tried to keep udpated about it (on Austen adaptations I prefer to know as much spoilers as possible in order to avoid unpleasant surprises), so my expectations about it have been since the beginning very low and I am afraid they have been conffirmed. I am not upset (as I had been with other adaptations), just bored with such a loose (pun intended) interpretation.

In moments like this is when I most terribly miss RoP boards.
